HEAD COACH: MATT HOOVER
A graduate of Westlake High School (Austin, TX) and Baylor University (Waco, TX), Coach Hoover has been the Head Golf Coach at McNeil High School since founding of the school in 1992. In addition to coaching the Maverick golf teams, he has been active in promoting junior golf in Texas. Hoover helped build the STPGA Junior Program, acting as the Austin Area Director from 1995 until 1999. He also created the Texas Junior Golf Tour in 1997, and directed the Tour until 2003. He has helped run several junior golf camps, and has directed and/or been a rules official for numerous tournaments- including multiple State Championships. He has also worked on the staff at four British Open Championships. Coach Hoover is an active member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Texas Golf Coaches Association, the TGA, the USGA, the St. Andrews Links (Scotland), the St. Andrews Golf Club (Scotland), the New Golf Club of St. Andrews (Scotland), Crail Golf Society (Scotland), and Lost Creek/Westlake Country Club (Austin, TX).
COACHING PHILOSOPHY: "My main objective is to help develop players who will not only have acquired the skills necessary to play golf at a high level, but will also have a deep appreciation for the beauty, complexity, and history of golf when they finish playing for McNeil."
